FOR DOXIES, THE NAME OF THE GAME IS . . . FOOD!

"Are you gonna share that burger with us??"

If their legs were longer, we'd be in trouble!

This is a laugh-out-loud picture!

DACHSHUNDS: CHOW HOUNDS EXTRAORDINAIRE

Dachshunds, as we all know, love human food. They can hear a cheese wrapper from 50 yards; they can smell food cooking when they are at the other end of the yard; and they awaken from a dead sleep if we are trying to sneak a snack of peanuts!

For your viewing pleasure, here are some very typical dachshund photos to which I've added appropriate captions:
"What's that you're eating?"

"Look into my eyes . . . give me a treat!"
"I'm ready--throw me that cookie!"

"See how cute I am? Don't you think I'm
cute enough to help you eat that cupcake?"

SUN DRESS FUR BABY!

I don't know about you, but this cute doxie in the sun dress ROCKS!  She looks as though she's supposed to be wearing it, too.

What do you think? Do you dress up your doxie? Our Duke won't tolerate anything other than his collar--but I love to see cute doxies in cute outfits.

YAWNING: DACHSHUNDS HAVE IT DOWN!

I smile every time I see my doxie Duke yawn--like most doxies, he gives it all he's got, and with that curled-up tongue, it makes for a good laugh. And a doxie yawn is cute, too--don't you think so?

Here are some of my favorite doxie yawns:

MY DOXIE GRANDDAWG SHADOW: NOT A MORNING DAWG

Our daughter who owns Shadow our granddawg posted this photo on Facebook early this morning, so I had to share it with you! The caption read "Shadow doesn't want to get up this morning." Isn't that 100% doxie?

Duke is not a morning dawg, either; in fact, he stays under a blanket until afternoon. Oh, he'll crawl out when we eat something, he hears a loud noise outside, or he suspects the mailman is making his rounds.

This trait is not confined to Shadow and Duke by any means. I quickly found other doxie photos that confirm my post:

Perhaps there is something to that old adage: "Let sleeping dogs lie."  Certainly, they don't get into trouble or mischief while sleeping.

DOES YOUR DACHSHUND CHEW UP THINGS?

We are fortunate--Duke doesn't chew up anything important at our house. I've heard horror stories of doxies chewing up clothing, furniture, bedding, curtains, what have you.

I couldn't resist this adorable meme--look at that face!

Does your doxie chew up important things? If so, what do you do about it? Leave a comment below.

DOXIE GRANDDAWG SHADOW IS SLEEPY!

Our doxie granddawg Shadow is 14 1/2 years old, so he's entitled to taking naps whenever he wants, right?

In the photo below, it was about 11:30 last night, so of course he was a bit sleepy.  We all laughed at this photo, dubbing it his "bat impression."

He's my inspiration for THE DACHSHUND ESCAPADES, and those photos on the covers of the books are of him, our rock star doxie!

DUKE THE DOXIE

Clark took some cute photos of Duke on Saturday, so I am sharing them with you today:

"Why are you taking my picture AGAIN??"

"Now where did that squirrel go?"

"What is that you're eating?  Can I have some?"

CELEBRATING DACHSHUND DIFFERENCES: SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE!

Did you know that dachshunds come in a variety of sizes, colors, and coats?  I think all of them are beautiful, and I also think that there's just no other dawg that holds a candle to a doxie!

My family owned several when I was growing up, and I currently have an eight-year-old smooth coat black-and-tan fur baby named Duke (pictured above).

What's not to love about them?  Enjoy these photos of various types of doxies below:

DUKE AND ASHER: GOOD BUDDIES

The photo below was taken on Saturday morning shortly before we took our grandson Asher back home after being with us for a week.  He and Duke are good buddies, as you can see.

DUKE'S EIGHTH BIRTHDAY!!!

"Are you going to share that with me?"

Yes, today is our doxie Duke's 8th birthday!  Thing is, he still thinks he's a puppy most of the time:  he loves to kill his toys (a dachshund trait), bark loudly, give doggie kisses, play tug-of-war, having running fits, act comical, and tease.

"I don't want to get up yet!"

He's quite a dawg, and has brought so much love and laughter to our family.  The grandchildren, especially our five-year-old grandson, love him--and he loves them, too.  He's good buddies with them.

I've never known a dog with as much personality as Duke--he's positively human at times, and can also tell time.  YES HE CAN.  He somehow knows when it is time for any meal, or at least, when HE thinks it is time.  He stares at me to go into the kitchen and cook, and if I don't do it pretty soon, he resorts to telling me by barking at me.

In any case, we love him to pieces, and he's our fur baby.  As I type, he and Clark and playing tug-of-war--and that dawg is strong.

Dachshunds . . . you gotta love 'em.

"Canada geese, outa my yard!

"Boy, that food looks good!"

"Who are those children in the photo?"

"Boo!  Did I scare you?"

"This driving thing isn't that hard"

"Don't you like my new hairdo?"
