HAPPY LABOR DAY!

We’re hosting one of our daughters, her hubby, the three grands, and the two granddawgs for a mid-afternoon meal today. I know a cookout is traditional, but we’ve opted to prepare a nice sit down meal: pot roast with carrots & potatoes, parmesan broccoli and cauliflower, baked mac & cheese, rolls, iced tea, pound cake & apple pie with ice cream.

Happy Labor Day!

FOR DOXIES, THE NAME OF THE GAME IS . . . FOOD!

"Are you gonna share that burger with us??"

If their legs were longer, we'd be in trouble!

This is a laugh-out-loud picture!

DUKE SAYS, "TELL MAMA TO COOK!"

Hope  y'all had a great Halloween!  I said I wouldn't be posting this week, but I HAD to post this photo of our doxie Duke. First, some background: Sunday night suppers at our house are usually "whatever" meals, meaning that we just eat leftovers, heat up some soup and have a grilled cheese, etc. Last night was no different.

We had eaten a big lunch at our daughter's church (pot luck), so we didn't want very much for for supper. Clark had heated up some soup, but I hadn't yet wanted anything. Duke watched Clark, who left him a small amount of soup to "clean out the bowl" after finishing. Duke looked at me, and I was making no move to go into the kitchen. After barking at me and producing no results, he got up in Clark's face and whined. He was saying "Daddy, tell Mama to cook!" Clark snapped the photo below.

Don't you agree that he was saying exactly that?

P.S. AND I probably won't post any more this week since the grands are coming. See ya next week.

EVER HOPEFUL CHOW HOUNDS . . .

Our doxie Duke (at right) and doxie granddawg Shadow are watching my hubby Clark intently as he ate dinner this evening.  In pure doxie fashion, they are "ever hopeful" that he might drop a morsel of food their way!

He seldom does, however.  The one who is a soft touch for those pitiful faces would be . . . moi.  Yes, I often cave and give them a bite of something that won't hurt them (chicken, turkey, a little cheese, etc.).

Food equals love, right?  Well, it certainly does in the South!

CHOW HOUNDS EXTRAORDINAIRE!

Er . . . don't put ANY food within reach of a doxie's nose - he/she will definitely make a grab for it!  Duke loves apples:  when my hubby Clark is eating one, he'll save a little "meat" near the core and hold it while Duke takes little bites of it.  Thus far, just about the only people foods that Duke doesn't like are lettuce and onions.

We don't give him much of our food, but we've been known to allow him to lick out our dinner plates when we are finished.  I know, I know . . . not good discipline.  He's spoiled rotten, and it's my fault.  I plead guilty!  He now considers it his due to lick out plates, and I have nobody to blame for that but myself.  I don't care--he's a good dawg and lots of fun.

He doesn't get but a few morsels . . .

BUT OF COURSE!

Except maybe reach high stuff . . . but my doxie Duke once managed to jump high enough snatch a piece of toast off the kitchen counter, no mean feat for his short legs!

Of course, that's the reason doxies have earned the title "chow hounds extraordinaire."  When food is involved, they'll go to any length (no pun intended) to get to it!

GOBBLE GOBBLE!

Here's wishing you a blessed and fabulous Thanksgiving tomorrow with your loved ones.  Since dachshunds are "chow hounds extraordinaire" and don't make very good digestive decisions, it's up to us to keep them from harm:

Don't give them raisins, grapes, chocolate in any form, turkey skin, cooked bones, cranberries, bread, nuts, onions and garlic--and I'm sure there are things I've left out.  They'll beg, so a few bites of just turkey meat won't hurt.

Gobble gobble!
