DOXIE GRANDDAWG SHADOW IS SLEEPY!

Our doxie granddawg Shadow is 14 1/2 years old, so he's entitled to taking naps whenever he wants, right?

In the photo below, it was about 11:30 last night, so of course he was a bit sleepy.  We all laughed at this photo, dubbing it his "bat impression."

He's my inspiration for THE DACHSHUND ESCAPADES, and those photos on the covers of the books are of him, our rock star doxie!

HERE HE IS . . . TA DA! SHADOW . . . THE . . . DOXIE!

I'm kinda partial to Shadow, our granddawg, as far as dachshunds go.  He comes in at a very close second place for me behind our own doxie Duke.

Shadow is 13, is a black-and-tan mini, and you'll never meet a smarter doxie.  He's so smart that he "wrote" THE DACHSHUND ESCAPADES series of books!  Sarge is based upon Shadow, and many of the incidents in these books really happened.

Here he is sporting his brand new hooded sweater that his "mama" got him (our daughter Holly).  Oh, he's compliant and will wear just about anything the family puts on him (a wig, a bridal veil, a grandma bonnet--you get the idea).  But that face says it all!

I can imagine what he's saying--after all, I've written five books from a dachshund's viewpoint, so I can't help myself, LOL:

"All right, Mama, I'm wearing it, but I don't have to like it!"

"Do you know how ridiculous I look in this getup?"

"It's not cold in the house, Mama--so tell me again why I have to wear a sweater??"

And so on.

Wanna caption the photo?  Then leave a comment below.

CAT AND DOG FRIENDS

Below are photos of our granddawg, Shadow, and his cat buddies.  The first photo shows Shadow, Aslan, and Piper.

In the second photo, that's Shadow and Thor, the newest member of his family.

In the third photo, Shadow is with Piper, one of the sweetest cats you'll ever meet.

They get along just fine, as long as they don't bother Shadow too much.  For some reason, each of the cats in his family (there are three) love to lie on the couch with Shadow.  They're all buddies.

DACHSHUNDS "UNDER COVER"

Here is a photo of our granddawg Shadow . . . if you own a doxie, you'll understand the photo completely!

I've seen Duke our doxie in similar poses over the years.  I suppose that since dachshunds are so long, if they manage to get their front half under the covers, then they think they've accomplished something!

SHADOW THE DOXIE LOVES HIS FAMILY!

Be they human or fur, our granddawg Shadow loves his family!  Below are photos of him with various members of his family, including the two cats.  Dachshunds are very loyal, you know.

He's the patriarch of the animals, and he's older than the grandchildren, so I guess he's the patriarch of the children as well:

TODAY IS NATIONAL DRESS UP YOUR PET DAY

Since today is National Dress Up Your Pet Day, below are some pics of granddawg Shadow in various getups over the years (mostly done by the granddaughters).

Sorry--you won't see any of Duke dressed up, because he will not tolerate any sort of hat, coat, outfit, etc.

GRANDDAWG SHADOW: CHRISTMAS DAWG AND CHAMELEON!

Yes, Shadow has posed for his Santa Claws outfit often now.  He is twelve years old, you know.

Over the years, he has really been longsuffering as the family have dressed him up for various occasions.  Here's a sampling:

"Ahoy, mate!"  (Actually I put the hat on him)

Bat impression (he was comfy under his blanket)

"Here comes the bride!" (Granddaughters did this one,
although he doesn't look overly thrilled to be a bride!)

"Get a long little doggie" -- and they did!

Here's undeniable proof of those booties mentioned in I AM SARGE,
Book 1 of THE DACHSHUND ESCAPADES!

of relaxing to the max!
And last, but not least, Shadow the UNC dawg!

LET SLEEPING DOGS LIE . . .

Our granddawg Shadow, now at the advanced age of 12, REALLY knows how to sleep (as most doxies do).  Pictured above, he's lying on the couch in the evening, enjoying TV like many men do, LOL.

He's still pretty spry for his age, however (which happens to be 84 in dog years).  Just let Duke grab one of Shadow's toys, and watch how fast ol' Shadow can move!  His philosophy is "my toys are mine, your toys are mine, ALL TOYS ARE MINE."  Duke, who is larger and younger, always acquiesces to Shadow.  Such respect from the young whippersnapper!

Here's another pic of a younger Shadow sleeping in one of his favorite spots (the bed):

In fact, from my experience with doxies, I believe they can sleep just about anywhere, anytime, for any length of time!  You gotta love 'em.
