DOXIE “DIS AND DAT”

Just some doxie truths to start off your Monday with a chuckle:

Have a great Monday and a pawsome week! 🐾🐾

MONDAY AGAIN??

Yes, it’s Monday again, and July is marching right along! Do you realize that 2022 is more than half over already? Before long, it will be time for Christmas shopping—stores are putting out Christmas decorations earlier every year to take advantage of a longer shopping season.

A local county where my husband substitute teaches starts back to school August 1st! When I was in school in the last century (ha), we never began the school year until after Labor Day. There’s a trend here: earlier and earlier.

And here I am, stuck in an older body that says “later and later,” lol.

In any case, have a great week, doxie lovers!

WEENIE DOG WEDNESDAY: DOXIE EYES

“The eyes have it” ~ and these doxies certainly know how to convey their feelings through their eyes, don’t you think?

WEENIE DOG WEDNESDAY: YAWNING DOXIES

Why do doxies yawn? According to the AKC, they do it because they:
•are stressed, such as being at the vet
•indifferent or bored
•”caught” a yawn from another dog or from a human
•yawn because it’s part of life, just like we do!

Below are some cute crocodile-like doxie yawns. I think they’re cute!

AH, THOSE DACHSHUND PUPPIES!

Image may contain: text

Doxie owners, isn't that the truth? We adopted our doxie Duke at eight weeks, and at his first vet checkup, I remember telling the vet that I was too old to have a puppy--Duke wore me out! The vet told me to wait until he was a year old, and that Duke would slow down by then. WRONG! Duke was five or six before we saw any appreciable difference in his behavior. In fact, he's approaching age ten in June, and he often still acts like a puppy (but he gives me time to rest in between tug-of-war and fetch).

Having known many types of dogs over the years, all breeds have pros and cons. But I must say that I believe the dachshund is one of the unique breeds out there: highly intelligent, almost bratty at times, they can exasperate and delight us at the same time! There's never a dull day around a dachshund--Duke makes me laugh EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

Dachshunds . . . you gotta love 'em, because it's impossible not to!

"Where did my ball go??"

"Ahhhh . . . a little to the left"

"I am smarter than humans think"
"SNACK TIME!!"

WEARIN' O' THE GREEN

Image may contain: text

Oh, I don't know about THAT, but they COULD be, I suppose. Tomorrow is "the" day, so be sure to wear green. I'll post about the history of St. Patrick's Day and why people who don't wear green get pinches. Stay tuned!

BEST AND WORST DOXIE TRAITS

What is your favorite dachshund trait, and what is your least favorite? I have thought about this quite a bit, and have finally decided. Here are some dachshund traits, favorite and least favorite:

Favorite Dachshund Traits/Behaviors

Loving/cuddle bug

Least Favorite Dachshund Traits/Behaviors

Chewing up something important

Which is your favorite/least favorite trait of a doxie? After much thought, my dachshund Duke is quite a dawg, and my favorite trait of his is (ta da!) . . . do I have to name only one?? He's loving, a cuddle bug, comical, playful, intelligent, comforting when one of us is sick or sad . . . HE'S WONDERFUL!

My LEAST favorite trait of Duke's is . . . EXCESSIVE BARKING! He'll bark at a speck of dust floating by--a car on our street--opening/closing of a drawer--to get me to cook dinner, etc.

He is also stubborn, but he's still so comical he makes me laugh every single day.

Fortunately, he isn't a digger, he's stubbornly housebroken (he won't shut up until someone lets him out--even in the rain), he doesn't chew on important things (except the occasional Kleenex).

What about your doxie?

Dachshunds . . . you gotta love 'em, bad traits and all.
