MY GRANDDAWG SHADOW IS CROSSING THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

Shadow with my doxie Duke
Please pray for the Hinton family this week. Our daughter Holly and family are having to say good-bye to our granddawg Shadow this Wednesday, February 1, 2017--it has been a tough time since he has been deteriorating to the point, at age 16, that it's his time to cross the rainbow bridge. They don't want him to suffer anymore.

Many other doxie lovers already know that Shadow was my inspiration for Sarge the doxie of THE DACHSHUND ESCAPADES. He has been the older fur brother to our grandchildren, a buddy to our doxie Duke, and such a special little man! We will all miss him so much.

MEET ABBY, THE CUTE CHIWEENIE

Image may contain: one or more people, dog and indoor

This cute chiweenie (cross between a chihuahua and a dachshund) is a rescue, recently adopted by my brother and his wife. I believe they told me she's seven months old, and I think she's adorable!
Looks like she already loves to cuddle, which is why they adopted her--a cuddle companion for my sister-in-law. They also have a cockatiel bird named Charlie.

I love animals, and it seems that I love them more as I get older. They add so much to life, and their unconditional love is only surpassed by that of our loving heavenly Father.

MORNING VIEWS FOR DOXIE OWNERS

Doxie owners, are one of these photos below the view you are greeted with when you first open your eyes each morning? LOL!

"Morning! I love you . . . I'm hungry!"

"Did you sleep well? Are YOU hungry?"

"I got tired of waiting for you to get up, so
I just decided to fix my own breakfast. Coffee?"

SHADOW, AKA SARGE, IS NOW 16 YEARS OLD

Yesterday, January 22, our granddawg Shadow was 16 years old! He's experienced a lot in his long life: he's "big brother" to our three grandchildren, who've never known life without him; he's made several moves to different states with his family (Massachusetts, North Carolina, Tennessee, and now Georgia); he's suffered through the indignities of living with no less than THREE cats now, plus the boxer Bruno. But he's still in charge, you know!

Since he's now 16, he can drive!

As you probably know, Shadow was my inspiration for Sarge the doxie of THE DACHSHUND ESCAPADES. Most of the things he "writes" about in these books really happened to him or my family.

Hope we have him for awhile yet.

Among his other comical experiences, Sarge learns about conniving cats after a week-long visit with relatives who own Tate and Joey, a.k.a. "The Fuzz Brothers." During his visit, (which Sarge calls a feline boot camp), who comes out ahead--Sarge or the cats?

Sarge: "My take on life is this: stand up for yourself, be courageous and loyal to those you love, and NEVER pass up a chance to consume good human food. I want the world to know that I AM DACHSHUND--the guardian, the sentinel, the keeper of everything my family holds dear!"

Five star review on Amazon:
"Amazing, heartwarming and easy to read! I love, love, love this author--Mavis is a wonderful story teller!! I was so excited to see more books written by her after reading the first 2--you can't go wrong by choosing her stories!"

THAT'S A DOXIE FOR YA

Image may contain: text

The meme above is exactly right! Our doxie Duke does this all the time--he'll bring me a toy to throw for him to fetch, but he doesn't want to let go of it! If I do manage to lay my hand on the toy (he keeps it about an inch beyond my reach), he wants to play tug-of-war for a while before I throw it for him. They DO have their ways . . .

Image may contain: text

This one hits the mark as well. I believe a dachshund would crawl through broken glass to get a morsel of something good to eat. 'Nuff said.

Doxies love their comfort, and will work until they get it just right--the dog above has perfected this art. Have you ever seen a dachshund twirl around and around until he gets his blanket just right? That's fine, but sometimes Duke is on my lap and tries to get my lap to conform to his exact specifications for comfort. Geez.

But who can resist those faces?? In fact, doxies have so many endearing traits that we simply put up with their loud barking, stubbornness, and desire to dig up the yard or chew on something important. Loyal to a fault, loving, and sweet--they're far more than just that small, comical body. They're family.

Dachshunds . . . you gotta love 'em.

DOORBELLS: WHAT IS IT WITH DACHSHUNDS??

That's why we don't have one!

Let me get my hands on him . . .
Notice that RUN is in all caps for a reason!

My one doxie is far louder than my doorbell!

And they will come after you!

THE TRUTH ABOUT DACHSHUNDS

Image may contain: text

This meme is the absolute truth about doxies, don't you agree? They are well known for their stubbornness, but doxies are so cute and lovable, they can get away with murder!

Dachshunds . . . you gotta love 'em, because they are so wonderful.
