What that Great Dane hasn't yet realized is that this doxie THINKS he's a big as the Dane--who will find out soon enough who's boss, right?

COOKIE MONSTER?

MOST AGGRESSIVE?

I've known about this tidbit of information for years, but many doxie lovers don't, so this is my public service announcement for you. Often, it's hard to reconcile that dachshunds are considered one of the most aggressive breeds (the AKC lists the doxie as #1) with the cute, adorable, and loving pet we cherish. 

Just watch them attack a squeak toy with every fiber of their being, and imagine if they were large dog. Yikes! They will take on animals far larger than they are, so we have to protect them from themselves and their DNA. I read of stories about dachshunds attacking bears or mountain lions to save their humans, often with tragic results. So when you let your dog out, go with him, especially if you live in an area where coyotes or bears are known to lurk. Even hawks can steal small dogs.

Dachshunds . . . you gotta love 'em, so keep them safe from predators.

FUNNY DOXIE MEMES

Dachshunds might be many things, but nobody can argue that they're boring! My doxie Duke (RIP) mad me laugh every single day--that is, until he got very sick in his final days. I can now look back at all those ten years of good memories, though.

TODAY'S FEATURE: DARLING DAPPLE DACHSHUNDS

Today, we're featuring those gorgeous dapple dachshunds which have gained great popularity the past few years. Reputable breeders will not breed two dapples (causing a double dapple puppy prone to blindness, deafness, etc.). Dapples come in a variety of color combinations, and can be smooth, longhaired, or wirehaired (correct me if that is incorrect, breeders!). In any case, they're all beautiful.
