"Happy Howl-o-wiener, doxie lovers!" |
This beautiful red doxie is wishing all of you a Happy Howl-o-wiener! When I was a child, we went trick or treating anywhere we wished with no worries. Today, however, most kids go to Halloween parties at church or in communities. As a Baptist, we sponsor Trunk-or-Treat activities at our local churches, where kids in the community come by to get candy and other goodies.
This is how it works: families volunteer to decorate their vehicle trunks, drive up to the church parking lot or another location, and hand out candy to children who come. Usually, the vehicles are parked in line so that the children can come to a safe environment and get around to all vehicles easily. Often, this activity is in conjunction with a church or community fall festival, complete with time-honored games such as apple dunking, cake walks, bean bag throws, costume contests, free hot dogs with fixings, inflatables, and the like. It's wholesome fun for the whole family.
Here in my town, our church is located across the street from the town center where its annual fall festival takes place. There is even a dog costume contest! Trunk or Treat is on our church parking lot, and families can easily cross the street to attend the fall festival: it includes booths, rides, games, inflatables, costume contest for all ages (our grands have won several times), and a concert. It's the best of small town living, and people from neighboring towns and counties come to packed festivities. Y'all come!
