ARE YA READY FOR THE WEEKEND?

Image may contain: text

Yes, it's definitely Friday! This week, we're having the grandchildren with us while their mom visits her sister in Arizona. Our two daughters haven't been able to spend this sort of time together for a decade--so many things to do in life, especially when children are involved. We also have our two granddawgs Sunny and Bruno with us, so it's very interesting around here!

We've taken the kids to an Imax movie, a regular movie, and out to eat. They've played outside, read books, and we've generally had fun. It is spring break, so school's out for them this week.

Have a great weekend, doxie lovers!

POLLEN: THE BANE OF SPRING

This spring is our first one here in Middle Georgia, so my husband and I were quite surprised to see pollen everywhere already! With temps in the 60s today, spring has definitely sprung down here! Oh, we love all the beautiful flowering going on, but some people have a hard time with their allergies during spring.

Certain plants are worse than others. Here are the top allergens found in North America:
  • ragweed: throughout North America
  • mountain cedar: Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas
  • ryegrass: throughout North America
  • maple: throughout North America
  • elm: throughout most of North America
  • mulberry: throughout the United States (but rare in Florida and desert regions of the country)
  • pecan: Southeastern United States
  • oak: throughout North America
  • pigweed/tumbleweed: throughout North America
  • Arizona cypress: Southwestern United States

In any case, I suppose pollen is the price we have to pay for all the beauty of spring. Grab your allergy meds, tissues, and enjoy!

SPRING HAS SPRUNG IN GEORGIA

I hear of weather reports in the Midwest and the North about heavy snowstorms, and we down here in the South just scratch our heads. We've had record warm weather with lots of rain, and now the pollen is blanketing everything in a coat of yellow powder. This is the first spring we've lived in Middle Georgia, so we'll have to see what happens weatherwise.  Flowers and trees are blooming, and it is quite pretty. Achoo!

Enjoy these beautiful spring pictures if you are inundated by snow:

And, I MUST include a couple of dachshunds in just about every post, so here ya go:

SEEKING TRUE LOVE?

Those of us who are obsessed with dachshunds (maybe "obsessed" is a bit strong . . . nah, it isn't) know how much they can love their humans. Being the recipient of such love is often humbling. We know we aren't perfect, and we know that we sometimes don't give our fur babies the attention they want and need. And sometimes (gasp), we are even known to yell at them! But ya know what? They love us anyway.

It doesn't matter how we look, what we wear, what we do--and especially if we're upset or ill, guess who sticks to us like glue? Yep--our fur babies. They instinctively know if we're upset, because they are master observers. They even know we're sick because that nose of theirs is super sensitive to changes in our body chemistry.

What a blessing it is to have a creature who asks nothing in return except our love! (Well, and maybe a treat now and then).

Dachshunds . . . you gotta love 'em. ALWAYS.

PESKY FLIES AND OTHER ANNOYANCES

Image may contain: dog and text

It's probably a bit early for flies where you live, but here in Middle Georgia, we'll be seeing them any day now. I saw several MOSQUITOS outside today!  We've had so much rain, warm temps, and fog here, I'm afraid we'll get eaten alive by bugs this summer.
