HOWL-O-WIENER DOXIE: PEACOCK!

Peacocks have often been criticized for being aloof, arrogant, and snobbish. Well, look at them--they are downright gorgeous! Our Creator fashioned a special bird with all the trappings of royalty, complete with a crown. Isn't it fitting, then, that a doxie should wear a peacock costume??

We all know that doxies think they're as large and as important as anybody else, so I submit that ONLY a doxie can truly carry off that "peacock persona."

TOMORROW IS THREE MONTHS

Tomorrow makes three months since our doxie Duke died (RIP 07/28/17). His loss was excruciatingly painful at first, but he was suffering so much and there was no hope of recovery, so we had to let him go. We’re now able to remember him with joy, so thankful that we had him with us for ten beautiful years. We’ll always miss him because we still love him—and he so enriched our lives.

He was beautiful inside and out, and loved our family unconditionally. Coping with his loss was the hardest thing I've ever done, because it happened so quickly and unexpectedly.  Below are some photos of him from the day we took him home until he left us.

HOWL-O-WIENER DOXIE: THE HOT DOG!

Dachshunds have been called many things over the years: sausage, wiener, bratwurst--but the most popular nickname for these cuties has been hot dog! I like that one the best, because it implies their nature as well as their shape--they are bold, brash, pushy! They will jump right in, never giving a thought to what might happen afterward.

Always up for some fun (unless they are wanting to sleep), these fabulous dogs are aptly called hot dogs. Even the Heinz Company featured them in their ketchup commercial a few years back.

Without further ado, I present today's "HOT" DOGS:

What a cute ram costume on this longhaired English cream doxie

I'm having a blast posting these doxies in their Howl-o-wiener doxie costumes. For some reason, doxies just look so much cuter than many other breeds when dressed up, but then, I'm very partial to doxies. Aren't you?

DOG COSTUME CONTEST, ANYONE?

No automatic alt text available.
"Happy Howl-o-wiener, doxie lovers!"
This beautiful red doxie is wishing all of you a Happy Howl-o-wiener! When I was a child, we went trick or treating anywhere we wished with no worries. Today, however, most kids go to Halloween parties at church or in communities. As a Baptist, we sponsor Trunk-or-Treat activities at our local churches, where kids in the community come by to get candy and other goodies.

This is how it works: families volunteer to decorate their vehicle trunks, drive up to the church parking lot or another location, and hand out candy to children who come. Usually, the vehicles are parked in line so that the children can come to a safe environment and get around to all vehicles easily. Often, this activity is in conjunction with a church or community fall festival, complete with time-honored games such as apple dunking, cake walks, bean bag throws, costume contests, free hot dogs with fixings, inflatables, and the like. It's wholesome fun for the whole family.

Here in my town, our church is located across the street from the town center where its annual fall festival takes place. There is even a dog costume contest! Trunk or Treat is on our church parking lot, and families can easily cross the street to attend the fall festival: it includes booths, rides, games, inflatables, costume contest for all ages (our grands have won several times), and a concert. It's the best of small town living, and people from neighboring towns and counties come to packed festivities. Y'all come!
