Most dachshunds love the beach: there's so much to explore, they are good swimmers, and they revel in soaking up some rays. What's not to love, right?

Dachshunds . . . you gotta love 'em!

Our daughter Holly and family came Sunday afternoon to celebrate Father's Day with hubby Clark. Aaaaaaand, they brought the newest addition to their family, Sunny! She stole the show, to say the least. Our daughter Bethany and hubby Kurt are currently RV'ing in Oregon, the Pacific Northwest, so they couldn't join us. We text, call, and FaceTime all the time, however.

Here are my thoughts about Clark that I posted on Facebook for Father's Day:

Happy Father's Day  to my amazing Clark Hinton. Oh, I know you don't care for the spotlight (unlike me), but I must shine it on you now and then, anyway, especially for "your" day.
Words can't do justice to your selfless devotion to me, our family, and others. You are the calm in the storms of life, my refuge, my best friend, confidante, love of my life.
As a dad and "papa," we don't take you for granted for all you do! Your unconditional love for us is apparent when you anticipate our needs and fulfill them, be they a dozen long-stemmed red roses for me, fixing an appliance for the daughters and sons-in-law, or repairing bikes for the grands. You suffer through our laughing fits (all of us females), listen, always give of yourself and share your time generously. I treasure your integrity and your faith.
Since I'm on a roll, saying "thank you" is inadequate for your caring and leadership. I thank God He orchestrated our meeting in Frank Sandy's home on Oct. 17, 1968! We were both 20: I was a senior in college and you were a police cadet--and what a glorious life we've had! God has blessed us with a wonderful, loving family, and I thank you for sharing life with me. I look forward to our future together. I love you!!

And here are some photos from our day:

I have a similar sign hanging in my home--because it is true! Duke seems to be the one running the place around here!

How about you?

I truly enjoy adding captions to funny photos, and with dachshunds, that's no exception. They are so rich in material to work with! Their facial expressions, their comical sleeping positions, their hilarious antics--it isn't difficult to come up with something.

Here are three of my latest favorites:

Our new little granddawg that I've written about is getting so cute! She's six weeks old now, and will join our daughter's family in mid-June. They've decided on a name for her: Samantha Sunshine! "Samantha" is in memory of my parents' red doxie Samantha (called Sam), and "Sunshine" is in memory of their 16-year-old doxie Shadow who passed on February 1. They'll call her Sunny!

The lady who owns Sunny's mom and siblings says that Sunny is a feisty little thing, always "bossing" her siblings around. That means she'll fit in just fine with the other females in our family, lol!  The boxer Bruno most likely won't intimidate her, and the three cats in the family will merely be her playthings. Can't wait to see how all this pans out. I'll keep you posted--never fear.

Sunny (the second puppy) with her three siblings. They're all adorable!

I have a very soft spot in my heart for puppies of any breed, but especially for dachshund fur balls.

Remember the fallen who have kept us free, and remember their families, since Memorial Day is every day for them!

Here's Duke enjoying some sunshine on a beautiful spring day last week. He's recuperating nicely and getting stronger daily. He can now walk across the hardwood floors without slipping. When he first was released from crate rest, he looked like Bambi on the frozen pond--he could barely stand up!

We're just so glad he's better. Our main job is to keep him from doing what he wants to do: jump up on the couch or chairs, and then jump down when he hears something outside (or not).

First of all, here's an update on our little doxie granddawg: she's walking, is very alert, and her owner says she's kinda bossy. Well, she'll fit right in with the females in this family, ha ha. Our daughter and family have thought of a cute name for her, but it's not for me to reveal it at this time. Without further ado, here she is:

"What is this contraption you have on me?"

"Can we take this off yet?"

"Sorry--I don't know how to smile yet"

Our other granddawg Bruno the boxer is the only dog in the house now since Shadow passed in February. Oh, he has three cats to keep him company, but they aren't very keen on him, so they keep to the back of the house. Here he is below relaxing on the floor. I think one of the grandchildren gave him the pillow for his head and the coverlet. In any case, he well taken care of!

"Livin' the dog's life ain't too bad, ya know!"

My doxie Duke has graduated from the playpen to a dog crate as of yesterday following his back surgery on April 1. He's not sure he likes it yet. Oh, when he's tired at night, he'll go in it, but if I'm busy and can't watch him (we are careful that he doesn't try to jump up on the couch or other furniture), into the crate he goes. Oh, he'll get used to it. One bonus is that he can go into it himself and we don't have to lift him up going in or out of it like the playpen. Will keep you posted on this important issue.

Duke also had his first bath today after his surgery. I would wipe him down often, but didn't actually place him in water. He was not a happy camper, but he tolerated it. Afterwards, he did have a small zoomie, but not like before his surgery.

"I'm ready for my bedtime story, Mama"

This is definitely my cuteness fix for today! So many of us dachshund owners do consider our doxies as our babies, and why not? They stay about the same age as a two-year-old toddler, and we've raised them from babyhood, right?

Dachshunds . . . you gotta love their cuteness.

Oh yes, they hear that! But they never seem to hear the word "No," or "Come," etc. So, it's called selective hearing.

She's a little red doxie, less than two weeks old, but our daughter Holly and family will be bringing her home mid-June. They haven't named her just yet. Below are some photos of her at nine days old:

We were all heartbroken at the death of Shadow, but my daughter said they are ready to have another dachshund in the house! Since Shadow was 16, it has seemed really strange without a doxie: the loud barking, the begging for food, the doggie kisses, etc.
