What a cute ram costume on this longhaired English cream doxie

I'm having a blast posting these doxies in their Howl-o-wiener doxie costumes. For some reason, doxies just look so much cuter than many other breeds when dressed up, but then, I'm very partial to doxies. Aren't you?

DOG COSTUME CONTEST, ANYONE?

No automatic alt text available.
"Happy Howl-o-wiener, doxie lovers!"
This beautiful red doxie is wishing all of you a Happy Howl-o-wiener! When I was a child, we went trick or treating anywhere we wished with no worries. Today, however, most kids go to Halloween parties at church or in communities. As a Baptist, we sponsor Trunk-or-Treat activities at our local churches, where kids in the community come by to get candy and other goodies.

This is how it works: families volunteer to decorate their vehicle trunks, drive up to the church parking lot or another location, and hand out candy to children who come. Usually, the vehicles are parked in line so that the children can come to a safe environment and get around to all vehicles easily. Often, this activity is in conjunction with a church or community fall festival, complete with time-honored games such as apple dunking, cake walks, bean bag throws, costume contests, free hot dogs with fixings, inflatables, and the like. It's wholesome fun for the whole family.

Here in my town, our church is located across the street from the town center where its annual fall festival takes place. There is even a dog costume contest! Trunk or Treat is on our church parking lot, and families can easily cross the street to attend the fall festival: it includes booths, rides, games, inflatables, costume contest for all ages (our grands have won several times), and a concert. It's the best of small town living, and people from neighboring towns and counties come to packed festivities. Y'all come!

DACHSHUNDS FOREVER!

Looking for that perfect gift for a dog lover?
Give the gift of Sarge the doxie's tales of adventure, featuring DACHSHUNDS FOREVER, Book 3 of THE DACHSHUND ESCAPADES:
"A dog just has to accept humans the way they are--they'll never fully understand things that we dogs know instinctively!"

No automatic alt text available.

Sarge the dachshund continues the chronicle of his own unpredictable dawg’s life, along with his zany family of beloved humans and assorted animals. He travels out west to Arizona with his doxie pal Duke (and a couple of his humans, of course), sightseeing along the way in a motor home. They encounter an Elvis impersonator in Memphis, marvel at rodeo cowboys and grazing cattle across Texas, see firsthand the beauty of deserts in New Mexico, and visit the Grand Canyon, that "big ditch" in Arizona.

Sarge watches over Duke as they interact with the Fuzz Brothers (cats from previous books) while visiting Kurt and Bethany (Mama's sister). The two doxies also enjoy mouthwatering regional food and many more adventures along the way. Readers will be wishing they had gone with them!
Another heartwarming tale of family, joy, good food, and unconditional love, Sarge's story will bring warmth and smiles to readers of all ages.

SUNNY OUR GRANDDAWG

Sitting in my lap watching me

Yes, we're babysitting Sunny this week while her family is on vacation.  She's quite a puppy, and I think she's 200% dachshund! She already exhibits all those doxie traits that doxie lovers have come to know and love: cuteness, intelligence, loving, always hungry, playful, comical, aaaaand yes, stubbornness. But she's a sweetie. We'll miss her when we take her back home on Friday.

DUKE'S GRAVESTONE ARRIVED, AND IRMA IS ON HER WAY

Image may contain: text

Duke's gravestone arrived on Friday. Isn't it beautiful? Our daughter and son-in-law, Kurt and Bethany, provided that for us. We'll place it on his grave after Irma has departed.

Speaking of Hurricane Irma, she is expected to visit North Georgia later this afternoon. Winds and rain have already heralded her impending arrival, and they are both picking up as I type. We do expect power outages here, and we've been told it will be for several days.

Clark and I are as ready as we can be: we have assembled flashlights, candles, lighter, paper plates, plenty of food, water, and other necessities. We have even packed "getaway bags" just in case we must evacuate. Our church is opening its doors to evacuees, and it's only a half mile from our house. We are thankful that it won't be nearly as bad here as it has been farther south. Pray for those where Irma has wreaked havoc.

Power may go out later today and stay out for a number of days, so I'll resume blogging afterward. Stay safe wherever you are, pray for those who have lost everything, and keep looking up. God is in control. Is mankind listening?

Granddaughter and granddawg!

HARVEY AND IRMA: NOT A NICE COUPLE

Please remember to pray for those in Hurricane Irma's path as she barrels down on Florida Sunday or Monday. Speculations on her path change almost hourly, but there will be much destruction and flooding. The states of GA, SC, and NC are also hunkering down. We are located north of metro Atlanta, and at this writing, will mostly be facing high winds of 60 mph.

In any case, FEMA and volunteer organizations now allow pets to come along when rescuing people. That is definitely a step in the right direction, because beloved pets ARE FAMILY MEMBERS and deserve to be taken care of like the rest of the family.

Also remember those states out west fighting a multitude of forest fires, as well as those in TX/LA recovering from the onslaught of Hurricane Harvey.

I don't know if we will be without power here in North Georgia--only time will tell. But I'll see you on the other side of the hurricane. Stay safe if you are in one of those areas mentioned above. Let's pray for each other. God is in control.
