TAKE YOUR PICK . . .

One thing I love about dachshunds is the fact that there are so many different colors, sizes, and coats.  The doxies above are just a few of the many varieties: there is also gray, black-and-tan, piebald, speckled.  I've read that they can be any color except white.

Short hair, long hair, wire hair.  Standard and mini.

However, they ALL have that same dachshund face with all those different expressions they are famous for.  And I love all of them!  How about you?

EVER HOPEFUL CHOW HOUNDS . . .

Our doxie Duke (at right) and doxie granddawg Shadow are watching my hubby Clark intently as he ate dinner this evening.  In pure doxie fashion, they are "ever hopeful" that he might drop a morsel of food their way!

He seldom does, however.  The one who is a soft touch for those pitiful faces would be . . . moi.  Yes, I often cave and give them a bite of something that won't hurt them (chicken, turkey, a little cheese, etc.).

Food equals love, right?  Well, it certainly does in the South!

SLEEPOVER AT GRANDMA AND PAPA'S NEW HOUSE

Grandparents & Grandchildren

This pic was taken last night just prior to going out to dinner with our daughter Holly, hubby Philip, and the grandchildren; afterwards, the children spent the night with us here in our new home in Georgia.  We've only been here a little over a week, thus the "junk" in the background.  We've actually made quite a bit of progress on the home front, with just a few boxes left to unpack.  It's been a lot harder than it was when we were younger!

We're taking the grandchildren to the movies this afternoon, after a lunch of sloppy joes here at home, a grandma specialty.  Annika, the oldest at nine, has announced that she will help me prepare lunch, and I welcome that--we'll have fun.  She's not too young to learn to cook, right?  I know she loves to help Holly with meals as well.  Alexa and Asher are content  to just eat the food for now :).

We're so happy to be living closer to all of them.  Life is too short, and grandchildren grow up too quickly, to be hours away.  We want to enjoy them while they are this age, because they'll never pass this way again!  Duke is a very happy dawg, too--he loves playing with the children and being chased.  He's a clown, loving all the attention!

WE SURVIVED THE MOVE!

Here is a photo of our doxie Duke inspecting Clark's recently-acquired, extended cab truck.  Seems that Duke has given his seal of approval :).

Yes, we survived the move from North Carolina to Georgia, and we're still in one piece.  Moving is exciting, but more difficult than it used to be . . . we're not spring chickens anymore!  Right now, we've been here at our new place for one week, and we're about 3/4 unpacked, which I think is remarkable.  Years ago, we visited a friend eight months after they had moved to a new house across town, and there were still many unopened boxes from their move--so I feel that we've done extremely well in this move.

We're already liking our location in the suburbs of Atlanta.  We live in a one-street neighborhood at the end of a cul-de-sac, with lots of trees.  I call our place "our little house in the woods."  However, we're only five minutes from anything, so we have the best of both worlds.
